Hussain Sagar

Hussain Sagar, or the Hussain Sagar Lake is called one of the seven wonders of Hyderabad. Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the truly 'international' cities in India.

The Hussain Sagar lake or simply, the Hussain Sagar was built by the Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali, on a tributary of the River Musi. The Hussain Sagar lake covers an area of twenty-four square kilometers.It was built in 1562, during the reign of Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah. This was the same ruler who had ordered the construction of the Charminar.

The Hussain Sagar area is known as Tank Bund, and this area forms a bridge between the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The main tourist attractions around the Hussain Sagar area include a government exhition area, the magnificent Secretariat with its government buildings and jewelry shops, the NTR Memorial Park, the Lumbini Park, the Hyderabad Boat Club, the Secunderabad Sailing Club, the Sanjeevah Park, the ancient Hazrat Saidani Masaheba Tomb, and the Birla Temple.



There are innumerable, quality eateries or 'food courts' on the banks of the Hussain Sagar. Going back to the jewelry shops at Secretariat, you will find famous outlets like Jagdamba Pearls and Mangatrai Pearls, here. The pearls of Hyderabad are famous.

You can for ferry rides on the Hussain Sagar Lake, the ferries take you to the Buddha Statue, located on an island-park in the middle of the lake. This monolith is awe inspiring. You may also opt for speed boat rides on the Hussain Sagar Lake.

The Andhra Pradesh State Tourism department arranges for trips to the Hussain Sagar lake. Once you reach Hyderabad there are numerous auto rickshaws, and car rentals operating in the city. Various travel and tour operators arrange for trips to Hussain Sagar.
